Exciting start into the new year 2024, as we met in January for the first in-person meeting of the Baltic Sea Nitrogen Cycle Network (BSNCN) at the Marine Research Institute of Klaipeda University, Lithuania. Three days of intense and inspiring discussions about the current state of nitrogen research in the Baltic Sea, infused with delicious local food and some history about Klaipeda to relax body and mind.
The meeting’s group spirit combined with everyone’s dedication to nitrogen research and the health of the Baltic Sea ecosystem was perfectly reflected in the ambitious to-do list we created for the coming project years.
Thanks to Malin Olofsson, our project PI, and Mindaugas Zilius, our host at the Marine Research Institute, for the great organization!

Happy network members after a successful kick-off: (front row) Malin Olofsson, Germo Väli, Hanna Farnelid, Dana Hellemann, Beata Szymczycha, Mindaugas Zilius, and Peeter Laas; as well as (back row) Carolin Löscher, Jenny Hieronymus, and Hermann Bange.
